Late Again
BZZT! BZZZT! With a groan I rolled over and hit my alarm clock. The numbers blinking at me read seven forty-five. Seven forty-five? How long was I asleep? With a quick leap I was out of bed.
Clothes were placed everywhere, papers scattered about. The paper I grabbed was near my socks and I swiftly stuffed it into my bookbag. I raced out of the house like a Nascar driver and didn’t slow down once. Street signs, houses, dogs, and lawns all blurred by as I continued my mad sprint to school. It usually took twenty minutes to get to school and another ten to get ready. That made the whole process thirty minutes long. I managed to do it within fifteen today. Fifteen. The number seemed magical.
I wheezed my way into class and slumped in my desk. Sluggishly, I pulled out the slightly crumpled paper and placed it on my desk before looking around the room. The faces, all staring at me quizzically didn’t look familiar. Who were they? I looked at the teacher. Even he didn’t seem familiar.
I stood immediately, holding my head with one hand, my homework in the other. “Oh no…” I blurted out loud as the eight o’ clock bell rang clear. I took a glance at the paper in my hand. It was dated from last week. Wrong homework. Wrong class. Looks like I was late again.
